A group of girls from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkan region founded the online platform and support page on Instagram called S.T.E.M. dedicated to strengthening women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Encouraging women to take part in those areas is an important step in developing society as such, especially in the Balkan region.
Head of the organization and manager, young Nejra Mujagic, explained the motto of the STEM team to be “Encourage, Empower, Engage”. “Three “E” are our obligation as students and girls from the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to encourage other girls to engage in those areas as well, and provide them with great stories and examples of successful women,” said Nejra. Currently, the platform is divided into several parts, according to the different areas it covers.
“Wonder women” column is dedicated to successful women outside the Balkans; “Know her name” is for the Balkan women with interesting stories and topics on women from the fields of interest; “Recommends” is a column on various movies and books related to STEM, and
“Herstory” are interviews with women in STEM.
Recently, girls have started with the “STEMahaluša” podcast where girls from the fields are presenting their path through science and tend to motivate other girls to find their own way and motivation.
